D is for Dun! Dun! Duuuuun...

Few things make me want to turn the page like the dun! dun! duuuuun...moment.  You know what I'm taking about.  It's that moment when you know there's some baddie around the corner--but the MC doesn't--and you're just about to find out what happens when...

The chapter ends.

And here you thought you were going to put the book down (FINALLY!) and go to bed.

Nope.

Because you need to know what happens.  Bad.

It's the dun dun dun moment.  And it'll getcha every time.  :)

So what about you?  What makes you turn the page?

  1. OH MAN I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS. The Hunger Games trapped me like that... chapter after chapter I was sucked in and couldn't walk away. It was addiciting. I hadn't had that feeling since Matched by Allie Condie.

    GREAT D!

  3. I do like these kind of cliffhangers, but sometimes it's too much.

Is that the cover for Elemental over there? It looks awesome!

  4. Oh i love and hate these moments in equal measure the worst one for me is when it is on my fav tv programe eastenders, because then I have to wait a day, or worse two days to see the next episode, or when it happens in a book, when I have to be out the door to go and do something so have no choice but to put it down.
when I love it is when I can read on because then I get so excited, desprate to find out just what happens, what an awesom choice for D, i love it.

  5. I love the kinds of books where I just can't put them down. I was the same way with the Hunger Games. I would stay awake reading it and then fall asleep because I was exhausted then wake up in the middle of the night to read more.

  6. I am such a sucker for the dun, dun duuuuuuun moments! It's why I end up going to bed so often way past the witching hour and then substitute sleep for white chocolate mocha with no whip cream in the morning.

  7. I hate it when the book ENDS with that! Then you have to wait until the next book in the series comes out! Arrghghghg

  8. I kept getting sucked in with the past few books I read. I couldn't put them down. Cliffhangers and awesome hook lines are the biggest things that keep me from even noticing I've passed a chapter ending. I've intended to stop in just a few pages, and before I know it, I've already read twice that.

  11. I kinda wish the book I'm translating currently (the last one from Tom Harper) had at least one "dun moment" :) It's boring as hell :( and I'm stuck with it.
